The service will run until 11:59 p.m. on December 24, according to an announcement from the online retail giant.
Amazon said eligible orders placed in the morning would arrive between 6 and 9 p.m. while orders placed in the evening, or via the one-day option, will arrive the following day.
Faster and More Convenient Delivery
Greg Greeley, vice president of Amazon Prime, said: “We are continually investing in Prime, adding more selection and making delivery faster and more convenient.”
Greeley recalled that last year, the last Prime Free Same-Day order delivered in time for Christmas Day was received on Amazon.com at 10:23 a.m. on Christmas Eve and was delivered to a Prime member in Richmond, Virginia at 2:42 p.m. the same day.
Variety of Options
Greeley encouraged those who are not yet Prime members to try the service for 30 days and get two-day, one-day and same-day shipping for free. Those interested can go to amazon.com/prime.
Currently, non-Prime members pay $8.99 for same-day delivery service plus 99 cents per item.
Expansion of Free Delivery Service
Amazon also announced that it had expanded Prime Free Same-Day Delivery and Prime Free One-Day Shipping to members in more than 8,000 cities and towns.
In the past, the services were available for members in 5,000 cities, according to a TechCrunch report.
Amazon has been continually improving its delivery services.
Back in July, the company also implemented The Hub parcel delivery system for apartment buildings, allowing recipients to get their package at their most convenient time.
Last October, it launched Amazon Key wherein couriers will deliver a package right inside the home or apartment unit of the recipient.
Amazon Prime members can avail of free delivery until December 24, and the service has been expanded to thousands of cities.
