There is no stopping Instagram from tweaking its features.
The photo and video-sharing platform owned by Facebook is testing a text-only clip feature called “Type” for Stories as an alternative to sharing photos and videos.
The feature was first spotted by The Next Web (TNW) last month.
The site said the “Type” feature was rolled out to select users in Japan and is now being tested on some users in Europe. A team member in Europe already has the feature on his device, TNW revealed.
Instagram out to Improve a User’s Experience
Mashable asked an Instagram spokesperson about the “Type” feature, and he said: “We are always testing ways to improve the experience on Instagram and make it easier to share any moment with the people who matter to you.”
TNW reported that the “Type” feature shows up as an option at the bottom of the Stories camera, alongside Boomerang and Rewind.
A user can pick from several fonts, and the platform automatically selects a plain background or gradient.
A user can also upload his or her image as a background, but Instagram will apply a filter to it to make the text stand out.
Meanwhile, WABetaInfo posted screenshots of how “Type” feature works and reported that “it will be possible to mention Instagram users in the text stories, and they may repost it for 24 hours.”
WABetaInfo reported also that Instagram is testing the sending of notification when someone takes a screenshot of a user’s text story.
It’s just the first month of 2018 and Instagram is already yet another feature.
Who knows what Instagram will be come up with next time.
